Synopsis

Secondary school teacher, Ms Lim, finds it difficult to relate to the notorious, stereotypical troublemaker in her class. What can the frustrated her do about his crude jokes and attention-seeking behavior? Make him stand outside the class, as usual.

Weicheng, seems undeterred by all forms of punishments for his misbehaviours. One evening, he follows his classmate Jasmine up to the rooftop. Mysteriously, she falls from the rooftop and lands in the hospital, in a coma. Weicheng, who is the only witness, is also the sole suspect.

As Ms Lim takes on the daunting task to protect and help her students, she faces other emerging challenges – an uncooperative student and a principal who is going all out to protect her school’s reputation.

Will Jasmine wake up from her coma? Will Weicheng return to the school? Will Ms Lim hang on to her faith and passion?

The inaugural production for The Fool Theatre, Because it’s Fun shows how bullying is omnipresent in our society and how it affects our mental well-being. Don’t miss this mind-blowing new play by playwright Tung Ka Wai and artistic director Xavier Kang, founders of The Fool Theatre.

Review: Because it’s Fun by The Fool Theatre

Far too often, it is children and teenagers who are crueler than adults, not realising the extent of their actions done ‘because it’s fun’. New theatre company The Fool Theatre (TFT) debuts onto our local scene with a brand new, original play that tackles precisely this issue, as the dangers and difficulties of dealing with bullying are brought into the light.

An Interview with Director Xavier Kang and Actress Audrey Luo

The Fool Theatre (TFT) is the newest company on the block to join our ever growing local arts scene. Founded by Xavier Kang and Tung Ka Wai, TFT debuts this weekend with their inaugural production – an original script titled Because Its Fun!

Written by Tung Ka Wai, Because Its Fun is set in a local school, and deals with themes of bullying as a teacher deals with the fallout following a student’s fall from a rooftop. We spoke to director Xavier Kang and performer Audrey Luo to get a little more insight into the production before it premieres this week.
